EU Special Representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith said he was "surprised" by a recent statement made by Serbian President Boris Tadic. The president told the OSCE summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, that any change in the situation on the ground in Kosovo could lead to the interruption of a planned dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Tadic statement surprises EU Kosovo rep "The statement by President Tadic at the OSCE Summit 2010 that any change in the situation could mean the end of the dialogue with Pristina was a bit surprising," Feith was quoted as saying during a debate on Kosovo before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. He added that he believed the "real situation depended on citizens, rather than the governments". Tadic also said in his address in Astana that Serbia expects that there would be no attempts at changing the situation on the ground while negotiations were ongoing. "Any attempt to change the situation by force will result in immediate termination of the dialogue," the Serbian president warned. Feith expressed his regret over the "parallel structures in northern Kosovo" - i.e., Serbs who do not recognize the authority of the Kosovo Albanian government in Pristina - calling for a boycott of the upcoming elections in Kosovo, and added that it was not helpful and was something the EU did not stand for. He expressed hope that Serbs will participate in the elections scheduled for December 12. The EU representative added that he did not expect any attempts of election fraud at the forthcoming elections in Kosovo, but warned that no political statement should be made by the Albanian community predicting fraud before the same happened. "It would create a bad atmosphere, suspicions, and could take us in a bad direction," said Feith. Speaking about "Kosovo's relations with the region", Feith pointed out "relations with Belgrade were in focus, while the relations with Albania, both economic and political, were very close".
