Kosovo police have forced a group of rebel monks and former Bishop Artemije, who was defrocked last night by the SPC Synod, out of the Duboki potok monastery. The police brought out “the usurpers” without use of force and all monasteries are now back under control of the Raska-Prizren Eparchy and Kosovo-Metohija Eparchy, the announcement reads. It is also added that the defrocked bishop was yesterday supported by about 40 monks and a dozen of citizens and that the SPC has already filed criminal charges against “schismatic group led by former Bishop Artemije”. “It is expected that all participants in these unfortunate events will soon be criminally prosecuted according to the law of Serbia for violent usurpation of Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) property and endangering of public safety and peace,” the announcement points out. EULEX representatives neither interfered with police work nor entered the monastery and the church dignitaries stressed that claims that Albanian special police forces took part in the operation were incorrect and malicious. “Only the local Serbs, who have good connections with the clergy and the people and who showed enviable professionalism and patience, were engaged in Duboki potok,” the eparchy’s announcement concludes.
