Nuclear decommissioning of Vinča this year
Source: Tanjug
VIENNA -- Deputy PM Božidar Đelić says the project of nuclear decommissioning of the Vinča Nuclear Institute should be completed by the end of 2010.
Đelić, who is heading Serbia's delegation at the 54th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna today, said that this was the conclusion of his meeting with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, but also with crucial Serbia's partners - Europe, Russia and the U.S.
"This is Serbia's major goal as it would solve a problem that has existed for 26 years," Đelić stated for Tanjug.
The research reactor in Vinca was turned off in 1984 and the nuclear fuel has waited to be transfered ever since.
