Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said that any political struggle for Kosovo would be meaningless if Serbs left the province. He told daily Vecernje Novosti that there was no reason to fear that “Kosovo scenario” would repeat in Sandzak. "Kosovo scenario won’t repeat in Sandzak” Sutanovac stressed that he “wants to believe that there is not a single responsible politician in Serbia who would because of some profit or some ‘deal’ recognize Kosovo”. When asked what he would do if he personally had to choose between Kosovo and Europe, he said that the most important thing was “not to put yourself or the state in the situation to make such a choice”. “We must do everything to be a factor of stability, to enable that life in Kosovo is organized on democratic principles and not try to achieve certain goals by raising tensions,” he stressed. The defense minister stated that there was no danger that “Kosovo scenario” would repeat in Sandzak. “The fact is that we are at the peak of the crisis now, but one should be patient. The essence of everything is in the economy. We should employ people, provide jobs to them and flammable rhetoric won’t have support then,” he was quoted as saying. Sutanovac also said that he did not see a possibility to create a coalition between Democratic Party (DS) and Serb Progressive Party (SNS) and added that SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic “is trying to flirt with voters in Serbia and diplomats via his pro-European rhetoric”. “When he publicly admits that he did not move from his street because it bears the name of Zoran Djindjic but because he bought a bigger apartment, that he regrets putting up posters of war indictees and that he will do everything so that Mladic is in The Hague, I will start to believe that the man has really changed,” the defense minister concluded.
