The opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) has requested that Serbian President Boris Tadic apologizes to Russia's Gazprom. The party believes that this should come because of Tadic's recent comments regarding the South Stream pipeline route. Party to president: Apologize to Gazprom "The reputation of the country is jeopardized because the Serbian president and his Bulgarian counterpart (sic) changed or tried to change the route of the international gas line without Gazprom's knowledge," SNS official Zorana Mihajlovic-Milanovic told a news conference in Belgrade on Thursday. She said that SNS wants Tadic to apologize to the Russian partner, and pointed out that the Serbian president has already sealed a deal with Russia on the construction of the South Stream pipeline. "If Serbia wanted to negotiate (about the route), that was the time to do so," the SNS official said, adding that "quasi-rules that exist in Serbia do not exist outside its boundaries". "If we wish to join the EU, then we must behave according to the rules. Does Tadic think that German and Russian PMs Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin were the ones to negotiate the diameter of pipes for North Stream? Of course not, engineers did that," the spokeswoman said. Mihajlovic-Milanovic noted that SNS also wanted the Serbian president to raise the issue of Serbia's loss of a 25-percent stake in the Jugorosgaz company, wondering if this will mean that the country will be once again blackmailed with gas transit, "as is the case with gas transit through Hungary". Spokeswoman for Tadic's ruling Democratic Party (DS) Jelena Trivan said on Thursday that the SNS reaction was "shameful". “The statement is shameful not only because it is false, but because it is deeply contrary to our country's interests. It is an outright lie, since President Tadic did not negotiate, but only talked about something which is a legitimate subject,” Trivan said. Zorana Mihajlovic-Milanovic (Tanjug)
