The European Union has not sent any resolution to the United Nations regarding Kosovo, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas said. He said that EU member-states are talking and coordinating a joint position for the resolution. “EU has not sent resolution to UN” Droutsas and Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said after meeting in Belgrade that the only sustainable solution for the future of the Western Balkans is one that leads the region into the EU. Droutsas said that the stance of Athens regarding Kosovo is well known and that it would not change, adding that the question of Kosovo needs to be addressed by the UN. A European official also confirmed for Belgrade daily Politika that a resolution has not been sent to the UN by Brussels. “We would have known that a draft proposal for the EU resolution exists and that (Security and Foreign Policies Chief) Catherine Ashton has sent it to the member-state, and since we do not know about it, we can conclude that it does not exist,” the anonymous official said. However, the source said that the stance that Belgrade media highlighted in the rumored EU resolution perfectly reflects the EU’s stance and what Ashton has already said about calling for new dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. The Beta agency’s sources stated that “a certain type of proposal” resolution was sent to the UN, which states that the EU supports progress in regional cooperation, economic and democratic development and regional stabilization, along with the European perspective of the region. Beta’s source said, however, that the EU Council of Ministers and European Commission does not mention “dialogue” in its proposal. Ashton stated following the International Court of Justice’s opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s independence proclamation that the future of Serbia and Kosovo is within the EU and that the “EU is ready to help spark dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade,” which should improve cooperation, achieve progress on the road to Europe and improve the lives of the people.
