President Boris Tadic is this Tuesday visiting the municipalities of Trgoviste and Vranje, which were hit by floods over the last several days. Two people died in the floods several days ago and many homes and businesses were damaged by the water. The Sector for Emergency Situations estimated that more than 300 people from the municipality of Trgoviste had to leave their homes. The government has announced that it would be giving financial aid to the municipality for the sanitation of the flooding damages, and the city of Belgrade will also be sending RSD 3mn (EUR 30,000) of aid. Today, President Boris Tadic said that the government has set aside RSD 15mn in aid for the Trgoviste municipality in southern Serbia, but added that a lot more money would be needed to repair all the damage. “Sometimes when money is being set aside from the budget, we do not take into account these kinds of situations because there is always less than needed, which is obvious, but the danger threatens when no one expects it and we must have budget funds for emergency situations,” he said. Tadic told local citizens that he would be speaking with officials of Srbijavode public water management company to find ways to stop further flooding in the region. He gave his condolences to the families of the two persons that died in the floods over the weekend, and congratulated locals for their courage and solidarity. Not only did floods strike Trgoviste recently, but the municipality has been enduring economic problems for many years. The municipal president said that new jobs must be created for people living in this region “immediately”.
