A majority of polling stations in Kosovo opened on Sunday morning and the second round of local elections is ongoing. According to the Central Election Commission in Pristina, there have been no reported incidents at the polling stations. Second round of elections begins in Kosovo Commission President Nesrin Ljushta said that 1,417 polling stations are open, and that there are 26 more in Serb communities that are not. “The polling stations in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica are not open, along with one in the village of Osojane in the Istok municipality and polling stations in two villages in the Klina municipality,” Ljushta said, adding that mobile teams will be working in these locations. In the municipalities of Strpce and Novo Brdo, populated by Serbs as well, all voting locations have been opened. Elections for municipal presidents are being held in the municipalities of Gnjilane, Dragas, Istok, Kacanik, Klina, Kamenica, Mitrovica, Lipljan, Novo Brdo, Obilic, Orahovac, Pec, Podujevo, Prizren, Strpce, Suva Reka, Vitina, Vuciitrn, Malisevo, Junik and Djeneral Jankovic. The second round will be interesting for Kosovo Serbs in the municipalities of Strpce and Novo Brdo, areas where Serbs make up the majority, but in which they did not receive majority votes in the first round of voting for local administrations. Serbian municipal presidents and local assemblies were elected in the first round of voting in the municipalities of Gracanica, Klokot and Ranilug. EU special representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith visited the polling station in the Novo Brdo municipality village of Pasjak. He said that he was content with the level of participation in the local elections and reiterated the importance of local elections in the decentralization process. Voting stations will be open until 19:00 CET. The Election Commission stated that results will be available on Monday. (Tanjug)
