Jeremić also announced that President Boris Tadić would be visiting the continent next year.

The minister travelled to Nigeria, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and pointed out at the end of the tour that Serbia would continue its engagement in these countries.

"We have confirmed the political support from the African countries in our fight for Kosovo at a time when they have been exposed to great pressures," Jeremić said.

He announced that he would be visiting Ghana and Angola in early 2010. The foreign minister will also address a ministerial conference of the African Union in Ethiopia.

Tadić's visits, according to him, "will represent Serbia's grand return to the African scene".

"Our country has played an important role, through Yugoslavia, in the formation of these countries' statehoods, and they are grateful for that. We have had exceptionally good reception here and there is great potential for economic cooperation," Jeremić concluded.
