K. Serbs who ran unhappy with election results
27 November 2009 | 11:30 | Source: B92
GRAČANICA -- Several political parties and associations of Kosovo Serbs who took part in the Nov. 15 local elections have announced that they would stage protests.

They described the results in the Serb enclave of Gračanica as “election theft”.

Municipal presidents have been elected in 14 out of 36 municipalities after the first round, stated the election commission for the ballot, that was organized by Kosovo Albanian authorities and boycotted by the majority of Serbs in the province.

According to the same commission, Independent Liberal Party candidate Bojan Stojanović won in Gračanica.

Now a group of politicians loyal to Momčilo Trajković, who also ran for the municipal president, our reporter says, "does not agree with the results", claiming that "over 800 ballot papers were missing from the ballot boxes".

For this reason, they are demanding that the local vote in the enclave be annulled.

President of Serbian Democratic Party of Kosovo and Metohija Slaviša Petković said that there would protest "in front of the Kosovo government in Priština next week unless their requests were met".

According to the election commission, Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party won in five municipalities, the Democratic League of Kosovo in two, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo in four, the Serb Independent Liberal Party in two, and a Serb citizen’s list in one.

The second round of voting will be organized in 22 municipalities.
