President of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Dragoljub Micunovic stated that Serbia and China were on the same side in observing international law. Micunovic previously met with the members of a Chinese Association for Internation Understanding (CAFIU) delegation, and pointed out that “relations between Serbia and People’s Republic of China were developing very quickly based on long friendship and political, economic and cultural cooperation.” "Serbia and China on same side" The economic relations are determined by the size and the development of the economy and can be expressed through the interest of China's business community to invest in Serbia, he said. Micunovic added that Serbia " on its way toward EU membership" and that the country wanted to strengthen its infrastructure and economy which could be achieved by cooperating with China. CAFIU Vice-President Zhizhen Wang expressed her satisfaction regarding the visit to Serbia and pointed out to the importance of observing international law and fighting against secessionism in the world. Wang also stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy and culture and added that China had achieved a quick economic development in the previous period. “The problem that China is facing today is accomplishing a long-term sustainable development, alongside preserving the environment, reducing emission of harmful gases and creating renewable sources of energy,” the CAFIU vice-president said. She also met later in the day with Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who thanked China for its stand on the issue of the Kosovo Albanian unilateral independence declaration. China is among the countries that have not recognized the February 2008 proclamation. Djukic-Dejanovic pointed out that Serbia's top priorities were preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty, speeding up European integration, fighting crime and corruption and raising the standard of living for Serbian citizens. She added that the Parliament's legislative activity was directed towards improving investments, employment and Serbia's standing in the world when it came to export. Wang stated that the relations between China and Serbia were traditionally friendly, which should help further development of the political, cultural and economic ties.
