Serbia to buy 3 million swine flu vaccines
3 November 2009 | 20:05 | Source: B92
BELGRADE -- The Serbian government has decided to set up an emergency fund to finance the purchase of three million swine flu vaccines, it was announced.

The as-yet-undisclosed amount of money will be spent from the budget, a statement issued in Belgrade on Tuesday explained.

Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević said that "vaccination is the best way of prevention", and that six-month-old and older children, patients suffering from chronic diseases and public institutions' employees will be considered a priority.

He also stated that "everyone will have to put their signature on whether they accept or decline to be inoculated".

The minister said he would recommend that the citizens get the vaccines, and that he "does not wish to be held responsible if someone does not want to do that".

Serbia has to date registered 169 cases of swine flue, with two fatal outcomes.
