The European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia says action is needed to prevent violence from being used to advance political plans and ambitions in Serbia.

Following the death of French football fan Brice Taton, Kacin told Deutsche Welle that all eyes were now on the Serbian authorities and their reaction to the problem.
“This is yet another warning to Serbia that it must put a stop to vandalism and violence, which is being provoked for political reasons. Groups of hooligans and other organizations cannot be an illustration of Serbia, nor a stereotype for the Serbian state and its ineffectiveness,” Kacin said in Brussels.
He said that it was time for the government, prosecution and judicial system to coordinate and adopt measures that would stop the use of violence to realize political ambitions, which was utterly un-European.
“Populism and radicalism, which are political options in Serbia, cannot receive the right to gather publicly and provoke people in Serbia. Enough is enough,” he said.
Kacin said that it was currently more important to see how Serbia reacted, not the EU, because no one but the Serbia institutions could uphold democracy and trust in the institutions.
