U.S. names new Kosovo ambassador

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama has named Christopher Dell as the new American ambassador to Kosovo.

Dell is Washington’s second ambassador to Priština, after Tina Kaidanow, since the province unilaterally declared independence on February 17, 2008.

Dell is a career diplomatic officer, with considerable experience in crisis regions, including Kosovo, where he headed the U.S. mission in Priština from 2000-2001.

More recently, he was deputy U.S. mission chief to Afghanistan from 2004-2007, ambassador to Zimbabwe, and ambassador to Angola from 2001 to 2004.

Dell previously served in Bulgaria, where he was deputy ambassador to Sofia. He studied at Columbia University and gained his PhD at Oxford.
