Socialists won't vote for Vojvodina statute

The ruling Socialists (SPS) will not vote in favor of the draft Vojvodina statute, party leader Ivica Dačić says.

The ruling Socialists (SPS) will not vote in favor of the draft Vojvodina statute, party leader Ivica Dacic says. Dacic, who is also first deputy PM and interior minister in the current government, explained that his party is opposed to the adoption of the document "even at the price of losing the parliament majority". Socialists won't vote for Vojvodina statute "The Socialist Party of Serbia supports the autonomy of Vojvodina, but we will never allow for a state within a state to be created, and for Serbia to return to a time that would resemble the 1974 Constitution. We will not vote in favor of that, even at the price of losing the parliament majority," he told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. Dacic also said that "just as the Vojvodina parties have conditioned voting in favor of the budget by asking seven percent from the budget for the province, referring to the Constitution, so anything outside the constitutional framework is absolutely unacceptable for the SPS". "I expect they will not only refer to the Constitution when it comes to money, but also when it comes to the very definition of the state of Serbia and her constitutional system," Dacic stressed.
