President Boris Tadic is spending Good Friday at the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Visoki Decani (High Decani) in Kosovo. "My message today in Visoki Decani is a message of peace, peace for Serbs and Albanians who live in Kosovo in our Serbia, because without peace we cannot secure decent living. Without faith in peace we cannot live normal lives," Tadic said today. Tadic's cabinet said earlier in the day that no permission for the visit had been sought from the temporary institutions in the province. The president visited the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) His Holiness Patriarch Pavle in hospital on Thursday, where he received the patriarch's blessing for his trip to Decani. Also today, reports said that EU's special representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith had said that he had recommended to the government in Pristina to make Tadic's visit Kosovo possible. Feith said it was up to the Kosovo institutions with jurisdiction in the matter to decide on the Serbian president's visit, but that he had "recommended to them to bear in mind the need to relax the relations and to make President Tadic's visit possible since it is tied to a religious holiday, the Orthodox Easter". The EU representative told reporters on Thursday to await information from the Kosovo government. Kosovo Albanian Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, who was visiting Slovenia, said that "authorities in Kosovo will very quickly make a wise decision over this issue". Yesterday, a Pristina government spokesman told Beta news agency that any official that does not go to the Kosovo institutions would not be allowed to enter the territory. Albanian language daily Express reported in Pristina yesterday that the president's cabinet sent its request for Tadic to visit Kosovo to Feith on April 14.
