Valley Albanian representative Skender Destani is "very unhappy” at the way the agreement over the Coordination Body for Southern Serbia was reached. “No-one asked the political parties during the talks, only local authority officials were consulted. That practically means that only Riza Halimi’s party was consulted, and that party doesn’t represent all Albanians in the Presevo Valley,” stressed Destani, the leader of the Democratic Union of the Valley (DUD). Valley Albanians unhappy at Coordination Body deal He said that the DUD did not oppose participation in the Coordination Body, but objected to the fact that other Albanian parties had not been involved in the talks. Destani claimed that the Democratic Party of Albanians, which shares power in Presevo with the Party of Democratic Action, would also not be taking part in the body’s work. Naser Aziri, who heads a citizens’ group in the Presevo municipal assembly, has also protested at the fact that not all parties were included in the talks. “This agreement was reached only with local authority representatives, which means with just one party. Therefore, it should be made clear that the agreement was not signed by the Albanians, but by one party,” he explained. National Movement of Albanians leader Orhan Redzepi, a former paramilitary, said that it was “indicative that the signing took place on March 27, a day after Albanian prisoners in Belgrade had been remanded in custody for a further three months. As if in so doing, Riza Halimi wanted to seal their fate.” He said that “that’s just the second act in the Serbian government’s game, while the first was the arrest of nine young Albanians on December 26, 2008. I’m convinced that the excuse for the third step, even harder for the Presevo Valley, will be Halimi’s signature.” Redzepi did not wish to expand on what he expected the third step to be.
