“Data protection law needed urgently”
6 January 2009 | 16:40 | Source: Beta
BELGRADE -- Trustee for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Šabić wants the govt. and parliament to establish the conditions for implementing the Data Protection Law.

Šabić said that the implementation of the law was important not only for Serbia’s EU integration, but for creating a mechanism to protect the rights of ordinary citizens and their privacy.

He said that his office did not have enough physical space or manpower to perform the tasks assigned to it, stating that citizens’ rights would be put at risk, as would some of the country’s most important international legal obligations regarding data protection.

“The Trustee has prepared and given to the parliament acts on the formation of a new agency,” read a statement from Šabić’s cabinet.
