Deputy PM Ivica Dačić says that the government is stable, but that if it comes down to it, government reconstruction is more likely than new elections.

"Should it be necessary, reconstruction is a more likely option than early elections. After opposing views on the energy agreement, this government is currently stable, so that neither reconstruction, still less elections, are in sight,” Dačić told daily Blic.
Asked how realistic the possibility of reconstruction was, the minister replied that the best option was the status quo “until the end of the mandate, so that the government can accomplish its goals.“
“Should reconstruction ultimately become inevitable, the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) would support an agreement with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), as well as with other parties. We welcome all parties that follow our path, which is removing political barriers between parties,“ said Dačić, who is the SPS leader.
Asked whether early elections were possible, he replied that they were always possible, but that the Democratic Party (DS) was also against the idea.
The SPS leader said that relations within the For a European Serbia coalition should be “a bit more compact and supportive,” adding that party leaders should meet more regularly to avoid any disagreements.
Dačić also rejected G17 Plus leader Mlađan Dinkić’s assertions that President Boris Tadić was running the government too.
“I don’t see it that way. The President of the Republic is the leader of the ruling party at the same time, so it’s understandable that he has a certain role in political coordination and political events in various organs,” he said.
