Kosovo’s Premier Hashim Thaci says Pristina will not change its position on the six-point plan tabled by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. “Kosovo will not change its position. It is the points of this plan that need to change. We have a state position and we will defend that position until the end,” he was reported as saying last night near Kosovska Mitrovica, where he attended a road-opening ceremony in a local village. Thaci says Pristina won’t budge According to Thaci, Kosovo’s institutions continue with concrete, constructive negotiations with international factors “without any pressures”. “I stress that the time when the decisions on Kosovo were made without Kosovo is over,” he also said. Thaci addressed the issue of the Serb-dominated north to say that “the government of Kosovo will soon present its plan” for this region. “There will no longer be zones where only one community lives, that are forbidden for other communities. There will be freedom of movement and safety and each citizen will live wherever they want.” He mentioned “1,000 usurped apartments and houses” in northern, Kosovska Mitrovica. The town is divided into southern, Albanian part, where no Serbs live, and Serb-dominated northern part, with ethnic Albanian and Bosniak neighborhoods. “Each citizen should have there right to return to their own apartment or house, their property, and those houses must not remain usurped,” Thaci said, adding that he had raised these issues in his talks with international representatives. As a part of its policy to encourage “people to return to their property”, Thaci said his government has set aside EUR 10,000 to be given to Ali Kadriu, an ethnic Albanian who wishes to rebuild his house in northern Kosovo. Kadriu has been trying start work on the structure for some weeks, but UNMIK halted it on several occasions due to protest organized by the Serbs. Thaci’s visit yesterday came as tensions grew at the location known as the separation point in the divided town of Kosovska Mitrovica.
