On the day the government marks its 100th day in office, the tight majority it has in parliament has been brought into jeopardy. Vojvodina League of Social Democratic (LSV) MPs have stated that they will not vote for any other government proposals until they receive an explanation for the recent increase in the price of gas. LSV to pull support over gas hikes LSV leader Nenad Canak told B92 that his party would not support a government that was robbing Vojvodina dry. While Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic is convinced that his government has enjoyed nothing but success in the first 100 days, not all his coalition partners agree. The LSV have announced that they will be reconsidering their support. Canak said that while seemingly everyone was focusing on Kosovo, no-one had noticed that gas prices had increased by 60 percent, a huge blow to Vojvodina household budgets. The prices hikes will increase the monthly expenses for the average home by about RSD 20,000 (about EUR 250). “The citizens of Vojvodina want us firstly to establish why gas prices have gone up, and secondly, to see whether the price hikes are realistic, and whether there is another way to fill the budget besides robbing the people of Vojvodina. We will not be party to that,” Canak said. Asked whether the LSV would stay in the For a European Serbia coalition, Canak said that unless it received clear and convincing answers, he was not sure whether the LSV would be able to “stay in such coordinates”, adding that “that is not something that the LSV can be part of.” Nenad Canak
