Former Serb Radical Party (SRS) official Aleksandar Vucic announced on Monday he had joined the Serb Progressive Party (SNS). The SNS is an offshoot of the Radicals, formed when former SRS number two Tomislav Nikolic left the party. Vucic to be Nikolic's deputy Vucic spoke to B92 today to say that "the latest polls show that the SNS is the second strongest party in the country", while "the difference between them and the Democrats is shrinking all the time". He also revealed that he maintains contacts with Maja Gojkovic, another former Radical, but would not comment on speculation that Gojkovic, who plans to form a new party of her own, will join the SNS. But party boss Nikolic has ruled out the possibility that Gojkovic will join their ranks. Nikolic also hailed the arrival of Vucic, poised to become the SNS deputy leader. Vucic told the Belgrade based Pink TV last night that the new party's goal will be to "beat the regime of Boris Tadic and Ivica Dacic and fight for a higher standard of living, and against crime and corruption". Preserving the country's territorial integrity, according to him, will also be one of the SNS goals, while the party will have "a clear opposition stance".
