B92 understands unofficially that Serb Radical Party (SRS) Vojislav Seselj has appointed Dragan Todorovic as his number two. Todorovic said earlier that the creation of the new Forward Serbia MP club by Tomislav Nikolic was a betrayal of the Radicals, whose words were echoed by other SRS MPs. Todorovic to be new SRS number two? After a meeting of the party leadership, Todorovic said that the Radicals had informed party leader Vojislav Seselj of Nikolic’s departure from the SRS. The new deputy leader said that Seselj had not been surprised by this decision, and had suspected it for a long time. The SRS will resume its meeting, and the presidency is due to convene to discuss the party’s new code. Todorovic indirectly confirmed that it was true that MPs had written their resignations from their MP mandates. “The resignation letters, as far as I’m aware, are still with Tomislav Nikolic, and he’s forgotten where they are, so that we’ll have to do that job again,” said the SRS deputy leader. Dragan Todorovic (Beta, archive) Curtain falling The former SRS deputy leader, Tomislav Nikolic, said yesterday he and party leader Vojislav Seselj had different views on politics, moral, and Serbia's future. Speaking to the press in the parliament, Nikolic said he did not wish to split the party, but added that many people were sad after the session of the party caucus. "The curtain is falling on one party. The curtain may go up for two or one new party. But what the Serbian Radical Party was, does not exist any more," Nikolic explained. He noted that over the past several years, "many have people realized that the party needs to be reformed." Nikolic added that if he decided to go his own way, those who wished to join him would have to call him. Nikolic further said Seselj had not done anything wrong ever, but noted that Seselj was now behaving differently from five years ago when he was leaving for the Hague tribunal. He recalled that Seselj then told him to run the party the best he could and not to listen to him, because "his mind would be twisted" in the Hague. According to Nikolic, Seselj recently told him that he had changed his decision on support to the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) because circumstances had changed. Seselj also said that during the talks on the amendments, the Radicals could join the government, which they could not now. Seselj "changed the decision because of his assessments that circumstances have changed and that the Hague had decided to kill him and over the clashes during the Radicals' rally on July 29," Nikolic explained. In a statement to Beta news agency, Nikolic said his caucus MPs would not be present during the voting on the SAA.
