Suspended Serb members of the KPS will soon receive their wages for the last 3 months, says a KPS spokesman. Arber Beka told Pristina daily Koha Ditore that the Serb Kosovo Police Service (KPS) officers had not received their wages since the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence, since when, at the request of Serbian state institutions, they had refused to work under the command of Kosovo Albanian police, which was why they had been suspended. "Serb officers to be paid from Kosovo budget" The majority of the Serb officers closed their banks accounts, thus rendering it impossible for the KPS to pay them their wages. According to the spokesman, those officers have now opened accounts in banks licensed in Kosovo, and now that a number of administrative issues have been resolved, they will receive their wages in full. “Now, together with the Kosovo Finance Ministry, their documents are being checked once again, and their three remaining pay packets will be paid out from the Kosovo budget very soon,” he explained. The Office of the UNMIK Police Commissioner yesterday refuted information that the Serb officers would be paid from the UNMIK budget, as certain sources in Serbia had reported, quoting an alleged statement from the UNMIK polce commissioner.
