U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Rosemary DiCarlo says that the U.S. is negotiating over its role in the EU’s Kosovo mission (EULEX). “Talks regarding the configuration of the mission are ongoing. I am glad to say that the U.S. is negotiating its participation in EULEX. We will continue to work on this plan, as soon as possible,” DiCarlo stressed. U.S. to participate in EULEX She said that she was satisfied with the progress made in Kosovo three months after the unilateral independence declaration. “The Kosovo administration clearly said in its declaration of independence that the UN would continue to be present in Kosovo. It is still being discussed in what form and with what role,” DiCarlo said. She added that the Kosovo institutions would take on new obligations after the constitution came into force on June 15. The State Department official repeated that Kosovo independence could not be reversed, and that the U.S. was ready to help Kosovo with its development. DiCarlo was in Pristina meeting with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.
