According to the latest information, one UNMIK policeman, injured during yesterday’s riots, has succumbed to his wounds. The police officer in question is a Ukranian national, a source from the international police confirmed to B92. UNMIK officer succumbs to injuries After yesterday’s clashes with UNMIK police and KFOR following the arrest of Serb justice workers, northern Kosovska Mitrovica has been quiet through the night and this morning. 15 people with severe injuries have been admitted to the Health Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, while, of the two in the most critical condition, Ilija Cuca has been sent for treatment in Belgrade, and Nebojsa Vukomanovic to Kragujevac. Vukomanovic underwent surgery at the Neuro-surgical Clinic in Kragujevac and is still in a coma. There are no UNMIK police in northern Kosovska Mitrovica currently, though armed KFOR troops are deployed outside the courthouse, and the building housing the Kosovo Police Service and the UNMIK administration. Negotiating team members have announced that they are prepared to talk with UNMIK justice representatives and offer a solution for the Serb employees to return to their jobs in the court and the prosecution in the north of the town. The negotiating team will be joined by President of the Coordination Center for Kosovo Vuko Antonijevic. He said that the Serbs were ready to continue negotiations with the competent UNMIK administrative staff, in order to peacefully resolve the problem concerning their return to those judicial institutions. Bigovic thinks that Serb representatives should talk to the highest-ranking UNMIK representatives about finding a solution, after the failure of earlier meetings with the civil mission’s regional administrator Gerard Gallucci. He added that no protests were planned for today, and that meetings would be held to decide on further steps that could allow the return of the Serbs to their posts in the District and Municipal Courts, from which they were dismissed in 1999.

Public Prosecutor: We won’t withdraw our demands

Serb justice workers will not withdraw their demands to return to their working places in the District and Municipal Courts in Kosovska Mitrovica, says District Public Prosecutor Milan Bigović.
