President Boris Tadic is in Bucharest today for a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu. The two presidents discussed "bilateral ties, Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence and Serbia's European perspective". Tadic: Serbia will not isolate itself Serbia will not recognize Kosovo's illegal independence, but it will not self-isolate either, Tadic said after the meeting. "We will never falter and we will never surrender. We will continue our struggle in a peaceful manner, with a well-defined strategic plan and we will protect our interests." "We will have the regions' and the continents' interests in mind," Tadic said. He added Serbia will provide direct help for the Serbs in Kosovo. Tadic thanked his host for Romania's principled position in the Kosovo status crisis, and stressed the improving economic ties between the two countries. Basescu said Serbia will have "all possible help from Romania on its path toward the EU". The Romanian president also reiterated his country's determination not to recognize Kosovo, and called on Serbia "not to isolate itself in these difficult times". Basescu repeated Monday that his country is one of the EU members states that will not recognize Kosovo's independence, since it came unilaterally and without the approval of the UN Security Council. Tadic's one-day visit will also include meetings with the country's premier, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, and parliamentary officials. Monday, the Romanian parliament adopted a declaration in support of the government and president's rejection of Kosovo's declaration. Tadic is also set to meet with the representatives of the League of Romanian-Serb Friendship, and give an interview to the public broadcaster TVR.
