Tomislav Nikolic's campaign headquarters today lashed out at the rival Democrats. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) said Boris Tadic's Democrats (DS) are leading a "fascist campaign." Radicals dub opponents' campaign "Nazi" Incumbent Tadic and Nikolic, who is the SRS deputy president, will face each other in the decisive second round of the Serbian presidential vote one week from now. An SRS statement issued today in Belgrade also identified Rajko Djuric, the leader of a Roma party, as "Tadic's private MP." The Radicals themselves have managed to gain support from another Roma party. However, Djuric today in a statement reminded of the SRS's controversial past when it came to racist groups in the country. "The kind of untruthful comments that Tadic and Djuric utter is evident in their claim that the Radicals used to support Nacionalni Stroj rallies," the Radicals' statement read. Nacionali Stoj is a neo-Nazi group active in Serbia. But in denying this claim, the Radicals say that it is in fact Tadic and his election headquarters that "will not refrain from using the worst Nazi methods to try and prevent their candidate's defeat." The statement also said that "everyone in Serbia knows very well that Tomislav Nikolic has spoken out against Nacionalni Stroj's activities." The party statement was later today reinforced with comments from the Radicals' secretary-general, Aleksandar Vucic, who claimed that Tadic's campaign is the "dirties in the history of the Balkans." Vucic spoke to reporters in a news conference held in Belgrade and accused Tadic of entering a showdown with SRS leader Vojislav Seselj, "although the regime dealt with him in 2003, by writing an indictment against him." Seselj is detained at the Hague Tribunal, charged with war crimes by the UN court, and undergoing trial.
