A document that allegedly came from the U.S. embassy says Miroslav Miskovic offered to influence the cabinet. The document, which B92 has published, says that the embassy turned down the offer made on the Delta Holding owner’s behalf by Bratislav Grubacic, VIP Bilten editor, whereby Miskovic was reputedly prepared to lean on the government to get them to change their policy over Kosovo’s status in exchange for being taken off a black list of people banned from entering the U.S. U.S. embassy denies Miskovic document The U.S. embassy in Belgrade has denied the authenticity of the document, which says that on May 18 this year, Grubacic, speaking on behalf of the Delta owner, allegedly told an official at the U.S. embassy’s political department that, if the U.S. was keen for Serbia to change its Kosovo policy, there was an individual who could effectively pressure the newly-formed government led by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunca, adding quickly that Miroslav Miskovic was that man. The embassy would not speculate as to the reasons the report resurfaced at this time. The document recommends "categorical and speedy rejection of the Delta owner’s proposal," and speculates that Grubacic "may have been telling the truth, though there is no proof that Miskovic could have had any influence over the government." Daily Blic also published this document today. Previously, Prosecutor at the 4th District Court Biljana Radovanovic told B92 that the Prosecution was considering further steps considering allegations in the press over Miskovic’s kidnapping by the Zemun Clan criminal group in 2001. The report comes in the wake of several days of acrimonious accusations flying between Miskovic, considered Serbia's wealthiest man, and Cedomir Jovanovic, a former Djindjic government figure, now leader of the opposition LDP. Miskovic has accused Jovanovic of involvement in his 2001 kidnapping, while Jovanovic's party yesterday lodged two complaints against Miskovic "one for libel, the other for criminal association".
