Infrastructure Minister Velimir Ilic feels it is "logical" to postpone elections until the spring because of Kosovo. On Tuesday evening in Cacak, Ilic told a local TV channel that presidential and local elections were "not necessary now," because "the battle for Kosovo is under way... These next 120 days where Kosovo’s fate will be decided are crucial for Serbia, and there is no time for elections while that question remains unresolved." "No elections before battle for Kosovo" "We all have to work to get the best position possible, to defend what is our duty to defend, and to make sure that Kosovo remains a part of Serbia," said Ilic. He added an election campaign would be "a distraction to solving the Kosovo problem," which he considers the "main issue." Ilic went on to say that an election campaign would only "give strength to our rivals as they try to put Serbia into a harder position, which is the last thing we need." "It’s logical for the Kosovo question to be taken care of first of all, and then for presidential and local elections to be held in the spring of next year, to allow a good campaign to take place in March, April and May of next year," the minister concluded.
