Medveđa: Resignation over local police?

Drašković said he no longer wished to participate in the Coordinating Center for South Serbia’s Council for Security made up of army, police and gendarmerie representatives, along with delegates from the municipalities of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac.

He announced he would shortly submit his resignation to the council, and added the newly appointed Serbian police (MUP) chief in the area, Radomir Radovanović, was one of the reasons for his decision, as both Serbs and Albanians complained about his work.

Drašković also claims Radovanović made threats to his family.

“Since Radomir Radovanović became the commander, my communication with police has not been good to say the least,” he said.

“Radovanović does not even speak to me and nobody from his force tells me what is going on in Medveđa. Rumor has it that the new commander has come to Medveđa so as to have me and ethnic Albanians living here arrested,” Drašković said.

“I thought at first this was just plain gossip, but Radovanović later on began threatening he would ‘ruin’ my family,” Drašković concluded.

Police have not yet responded to the allegations.
