“The international community will under no circumstances agree to a changing of borders.” Serwer said.

He said that Serbia would make significant progress on the road towards European Union admission if the Kosovo question is solved in a peaceful, fast and clear manner.

“The current approach of Belgrade can lead to violence, a prolonging of the process and confusion. It is time for the citizens of Serbia to clearly tell their politicians what they want: is Kosovo the Serbian Jerusalem or the Serbian Slovakia?”

He said that Kosovo is already independent in the sense that it has its own administration and that it is a UN protectorate, but it is not sovereign. Server said that the behavior of the Milošević regime in Kosovo is the main reason that the majority population does not wish to live under Serbian sovereignty.

“The true democratic government in Belgrade must take note of this in its Kosovo proposals.” Serwer said.

Chief of the US Office in Kosovo, Tina Kaidanow, also said that the international community will not accept a division of Kosovo and that she does not understand what Serbia would gain from such a solution.

“Not only me, but members of the Contact Group are also very clear about this question. There will be no division of Kosovo, and the reason is that no one would gain anything from this, especially not the Kosovo Serbs.” Kaidanow said in an interview on KIM Radio.

She said that it is sad that Belgrade is negotiating for the most part in the name of the Kosovo Serbs, because only the Kosovo Serbs can protect their own interests.

“Do not pass judgment on the basis of what other people are saying from other places and instead, listen carefully to what kind of guarantees and right you will be receiving from the process.“ Kaidanow said, addressing Kosovo’s citizens.
