Survey of Europeans shows positive opinion of Serbia
21 November 2009 | 08:54 | Source: B92
BELGRADE -- Students of the Belgrade Political Science Faculty conducted a survey which shows that many Europeans support Serbia’s European Union integration.

According to the survey, one-fourth of citizens in Vienna, Brussels, Prague and Berlin have a positive stance regarding Serbia joining the EU.

Reasons given for the positive stance were the warmth and hospitality of the Serbian people, the phenomenal night life in Serbia, and the positive experiences of friends.

Seven percent of those interviewed who have a negative stance on Serbia explain that their knowledge of the wars of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia shaped their negative opinions of Serbia.

Despite the positive stance of many, must of those that were surveyed said that they do not believe that the EU should be enlarged any further.

“Serbia is on a good path towards EU association, and has the full support of Germany on that road,” German ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Maas said.

“I have never heard from anyone that they cannot see Serbia as a member of the European Union. There were other countries for which I heard things like that, but never for Serbia. That is normal because Serbia is in the center of Europe and it is logical for the country to be an EU member-state,” Maas added.
