"Macedonia should help Kosovo on visas"

12 November 2009

European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin praised Macedonia and called on the country to help Kosovo get on the Schengen white list.

The Slovenian politician commended Macedonia’s success of being the first country in the region to complete the plan for abolishing visas for the EU, “which positively influenced Montenegro and Serbia to make up for what they missed”.

Kacin said that he hoped that Macedonia would now be able to help Albania over the EU visas imposed on its citizens, but reminded that Macedonia’s success also “caused sadness, especially in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has yet to succeed in this, and especially among Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims)”.

Kacin reminded Macedonia that "Kosovo also needs help", and that it is due to get a plan of visa liberalization.

He said that he is "especially pleased" with Slovenia’s proposal for abolishing visas for Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro on December 19.
