Oliver Ivanovic believes that the international community should send a clear message in support of the return of Serb IDPs to Kosovo. The state secretary with the Ministry for Kosovo spoke in reaction to the several days of protests organized by ethnic Albanians against the return of Serbs to the village of Zac, near Istok. "Intl. community should send message" "They (the international community) should send a clear message to Albanians about their position over this, if their statements about supporting the return of Serbs are in fact sincere," Ivanovic was quoted as saying. According to him, the two communities in Istok enjoyed good relations until shortly before the war broke out in 1999. "I see no other reason for these protests, except that Albanians do not wish to give back to Serbs their land that they have been using illegally for 11 years," the state secretary continued. Ivanovic also commended Kosovo police, KPS, and KFOR for not allowing for direct contact between the protesting Albanians and the returnee Serbs, who are currently accommodated in tents.
