However, there are still problems. Downstream from the Zabaljska Bridge, on the coast of the Tisa River, is where the flooding problems remain hazardous.

According to Waterworks official Nikola Marjanovic, “The Tisa continues to grow, but gradually. The most endangered areas at on the left and right coasts of the Tisa, near the entrance in to the Titela zone. The Tisa continues to grow, but we expect that it will stop.”

The problems with the level of the Tisa are the result of water still making its way from Hungary.

Marjanovic said that one of the main problems is the movement of underground water.

“These situations with high water levels usually last a long time, embankments subjected to water supplies for a long amount of time stop functioning, which can lead to an eventual breakage of the embankment.” Marjanovic said, adding that the region is still far from being in the clear, and that the situation must continue to be monitored in order to stop any further damage incurred by the coastal region.

As far as the Danube River is concerned, the water level have stopped rising. The situation is now under control in Belgrade. Measures were taken early in Belgrade in order to prevent flooding, and 250 kilometres of sandbagging defences line river coasts around the region. The Ritopek community is the only location in Belgrade where the situation can be considered drastic.

Belgrade officials stated that the concerns now are that underground water may start to build up in Zemun and in the lower levels of the Palilula and Savski Venac municipalities. A rapid decrease in the water level may also lead to landslides, according to officials in Belgrade.
