Man kills ex-wife using knife, strangles 4-year-old child

They were the Center's employees who tried to separate the killer from the woman, the original victim attacked with the knife.

The attacker has been arrested.

The daily Blic is reporting on Thursday that, "under controlled conditions at the Center," the man was allowed to spend an hour with the child before returning it to the mother.

But the killer, whose initials are M.N., carried the child back in his arms - "unconscious, and by all accounts, already dead."

When the woman ran to them to see what was happening with the child, M.N. produced a knife, and murdered her.

Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic on Wednesday afternoon called an urgent meeting with ministers of justice and labor, and announced later that "urgent measures" will be undertaken in order to prevent similar accidents in future.

Stefanovic also revealed that the killer had a previous criminal record.

Last week, a man identified with his initials as M.L. used a rock to murder his wife in New Belgrade's Social Welfare Center, in front of their three underage children.

He fled the scene and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train.
