The names of 14 Serb farmers gunned down while harvesting their fields in July 1999 were inscribed on the plaque, as well as those of the victims of NATO's aggression that took place earlier the same year.

The memorial was placed at the elementary school in the center of the village.

A graffiti reading "hakmarrja" (Albanian for "revenge") was also sprayed next to the broken plaque, Tanjug reported on Friday morning.

The incident has caused disturbance among the few remaining Serbs in this village, and was condemned in the strongest terms by Kosovo Minister for Return and Communities Dalibor Jevtic.

Jevtic told Tanjug that this was "an act of vandalism" and that he would visit the village on Friday.
