A statement said that two 19-year-old Syrians confessed to murdering Aleksandar Markovic. They said they intended to rob their victim, and "risked that he may die from torture."

Markovic, a musician originally from Valjevo, in western Serbia, was reported missing by his father, who was unable to reach him on his cell phone.

The police in Austria had to force their way into the locked apartment, where they found the body of the young man, in a bathtub with no water. He was dressed, his arms and legs tied with duct tape, with numerous bruises and injuries visible on his face.

As the police did not find any evidence that the apartment was broken into, so they assume the victim knew his killers and had let them in. However, the apartment was ransacked, "which points to robbery," Tanjug reported.
