A three-year-old girl from the village of Vratarnica near Zajecar, eastern Serbia, was raped and murdered on Saturday night, the police have confirmed.

Suspected child killer confesses to another murder

Parents began to look for the toddler when they noticed she was missing on Saturday night. According to reports on Sunday, the suspect subsequently "informed the police" that he had killed the child. The body was found early on Sunday morning.

Acting Police Director Vladimir Rebic said that the suspect was under arrest.

"At about 21:30 CET (on Saturday) the police received the mother's report that the child was missing," Rebic said, adding that the victim was attending a birthday party in a neighbor's house at the time.

Some media were reporting that the suspect also admitted to the killing of a 43-year-old woman from the village.

B92 learned unofficially on Monday afternoon that Rajkovic has confessed to murdering Dragana Stankovic and throwing her body, wrapped in a blanket, into the Timok River.

The police are set to start searching for the body of the woman, also a resident of the village of Vratarnica, who was reported missing 20 days ago.

The suspect's father, Nebojsa Rajkovic, said on Sunday that he "immediately suspected" his son had killed not only the child, but also Dragana Stankovic.

However, during the first interrogation, Vladica Rajkovic confessed only to the murder of the child, denying that he also killed Stankovic.
