The SITF is an independent body investigating war crimes and organized crime allegations, the agency said."A lot has been done so far, and we'll continue to work to make the Special Court Chamber and the Office of the Special Prosecutor fully operational," Schwendiman said when asked when the court could open its doors, and when the first indictments could be expected, and added that all the decisions the new special prosecutor had to make would be made on time.
Beta noted that the Dutch government earlier this year confirmed that the Special Court for War Crimes in Kosovo would be set up at The Hague and would deal with "the serious crimes allegedly committed by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army against Serbs and ethnic minorities, and political opponents, from 1999 to 2000."
Pristina-based media reported that the special court might start operating in a month, and that the first indictments, expected to create upheaval in Kosovo's political community, could appear in October, but Schwendiman refused to make a comment on rumors and speculations that are not in the interest of the victims and their families.
