Representatives of journalists' associations have called on friends and colleagues to, together with the family of the murdered journalist, as in previous years, lay wreaths and light candles in front of a memorial located at the site.The Curuvija murder trial began on June 1, 2015.
Former DB chief Radomir Markovic, former head of the service's Belgrade Center Milan Radonjic, former chief intelligence inspector in the Second Administration Ratko Romic, and a former member of its reserve personnel Miroslav Kurak stand accused in the case.
Romic and Radonjic were arrested in January 2014 and have been kept in detention since, Markovic is already serving a sentence of 40 years in prison, while Kurak is on the run.
According to the indictment, Curuvija was killed by Kurak, with Romic as his accomplice, who also struck Curuvija's common-law wife Branka Prpa on the head with the back of a pistol.
According to the indictment, Curuvija was killed because of his "public statements in the country and abroad, and criticism of the holders of political power, the possibility of influencing public opinion and action of opposition of social forces, for the sake of preserving the existing government."
