The decision was made by the Basic Court in Kosovska Mitrovica, Radio Kontakt Plus has reported.

The Serb politician from northern Kosovo was recently convicted

on war crimes charges. While he was detained during the trial, Ivanovic was on one occasion allowed to visit a church on his family patron saint feast (slava).

In January, a court chamber of the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, found Ivanovic guilty of committing war crimes in April 1999 and sentenced him to nine years in prison.

Ivanovic has been jailed in Kosovska Mitrovica while his lawyers wait to receive in writing the first degree ruling, so they could appeal against it before the Court of Appeals in Pristina.
