The suspects served at the Backi Breg border crossing area, near Sombor in northern Serbia, and the police submitted criminal charges against them to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, the Interior Ministry has said.

They are suspected of failing to take measures within the scope of their powers to prevent smuggling and other criminal acts and of taking money and gifts as bribes that they shared among themselves.

The suspects were arrested in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and the National Protective Service of the Hungarian Ministry of Interior.

“This operation prevented actions of smuggling excise goods to the EU and abusing the visa-free regime for the citizens to the Republic of Serbia,” the release said.
