A man has killed six members of his family before he was killed himself in a tragedy that unfolded on Sunday in the villages near Kanjiza, northern Serbia.

Man murders 6 in northern Serbia before he is killed

It was initially reported that R.S. used a hunting rifle to kill his victims, and then commit suicide.

But during the day, it emerged that the shooter was killed by the husband of a woman who was wounded in the rampage in the villages of Martonos and Orom.

The murders took place one day after R.S.'s son's wedding, and the victims include R.S.'s new daughter-in-law, as well as both her parents, and his wife, and both her parents.

According to unofficial reports, R.S. was opposed to his son's marriage with the 25-year-old woman.

The woman who was wounded - as her child was standing nearby - was the aunt of the killer's daughter-in-law, while the man who killed R.S. was the uncle - according to eyewitness, a foreigner.

B92 learned unofficially on Sunday that killer was brought in to the local police station because of violent behavior on Sunday morning, but was later released. After that he returned to the village and committed the murders.

The Serbian Interior Ministry is expected to announce more details about the mass murder during the day on Monday.
