Daily: U.S. ambassador threatened by member of gang

The suspect accused for addressing death threats not only to Michael Kirby, but also to the Main Prosecutor of Serbia Zagorka Dolovac, and President of B92 Fund and Chairman of the Commission for investigating the killings of journalists, Veran Matic, took part in gunfight of the criminal gangs.

The name of Nemanja Ristic is mentioned in the attempt of assassination of Sredoje Sljukic Sljuka, the leader of Zvezdara gang. He was named in the articles in the press that depict the attempt on the life of Sljukic back in 1994.

Namely, on May 30, 1994, Branko Grebenarevic and Nemanja Ristic had fired at Sljukic and Srdjan Adzemovic Adzem (listed in the White Book of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as the member of Zvezdara gang) on Vozdovac, in front of the fitness gym “Fitness Studio”. They had both fired at Sljukic and Adzemovic who returned fire. In this gunfight, Tatjana Nikolic (20) got shot. All except Sljukic got sentenced. Grebenarevic was killed in 1996, while Ristic was released in 2012, whereas the procedure against Adzemovic got suspended in 2000, as the Prosecutor abandoned prosecution.

Vozdovac gang was led, in times when Ristic and Grebenarevic had fired on Sljukic, by Goran Vukovic, aka Majmun, who got killed on December 12, 1994. Ristic is mentioned concerning the assault on Sljukic in the café near sports center “Olympus” on Zvezdara. Several criminal charges were brought against Ristic because of weapon possession and physical attacks. He was suspected also for assaulting member of police patrol. Court proceedings were held against him, which he regularly attended wearing camouflage uniform.

He used to send threats that he was recently arrested for via emails and via social networks. He addressed all his targets by saying that they will soon be shot.

Ristic had recently confirmed for the statement given to Blic that he sent disputable emails to some of the public figures. We managed to find him via the advertisement for selling cats, as he owns cat kennel with his wife. “This is not a threat, but information. His assassination will be ordered, as state of emergency will be introduced, due to the conflict with U.S., Great Britain, Germany… I had sent email messages and phoned some other individuals, all those traitors, you know, such as Boris Tadic, Cedomir Jovanovic, etc… I was interrogated by the police for this”, Ristic stated, while answering the question of Blic as to why he threatened Veran Matic.

After the assassination of Sredoje Sljukic on September 29, 2002, when his first cousin Zoran got shot too, Zvezdara gang lied low for a while. The members of Zemun gang were sentenced to imprisonment for the assassination of Sljukic. Some of the senior members of this gang went abroad, frightened or due to some other reasons. Others started to buy real estates, restaurants and cheaper companies, with the single aim – to make their dirty money legal. This gang, which is among the oldest criminal gangs in Belgrade, changed its operating mode, so it is not as brutal as it used to be.
