Hague set "limited number of conditions" for Šešelj

The interaction with partners in Serbia is good, as usual, which was also the case one year age and 6 months ago, he told Tanjug at the end of the visit.

The ICTY has political support as well, which is necessary to continue its work, he noted.

Brammertz met with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović, Justice Minister Nikola Selaković and War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević.

The Office of the Serbian Prosecutor for War Crimes still has a lot of work to do, he stated, adding that he had discussed regional cooperation with Vukcevic, which had improved in terms of exchange of information related to war crimes cases.

He said he wanted to see more progress and results.

Commenting on ICTY inidctee Vojislav Šešelj's temporary release, Brammertz remarked that the trial chamber did it because of humanitarian reasons and Šešelj's poor health, but added that his office had no access to Šešelj's medical files and therefore could not give an opinion.

However, he points out that the chamber set a very limited number of conditions for Šešelj's release and did not ask the indictee if he accepted them, which is fairly unusual in general.

It is up to the chamber to decide if the conditions have been met, and if any have been violated, it can order Šešelj to return to the ICTY, Brammertz stated.

The Serbian government has reacted very sensibly, professionally and maturely to Šešelj's return, he believes.

The ICTY prosecutor thinks the current government will make sure Serbia continues to move forward and will not allow one person's views to prevent that.

The ICTY Chief Prosecutor's Office is not happy with the course of Šešelj's trial, he noted.

The trial has been tool long and the verdict should have been delivered as planned, last year, he stressed.

Brammertz visited Belgrade in preparation for his 6-month report to the UN Security Council, which he should present in the second week of December.
