43 people arrested on "extremism" charges

The arrest of 40 people was announced last Monday, but 3 more have been arrested in the meantime and the police are looking for 14 others, the local media have reported, according to Tanjug.

A 30-day custody has been ordered for the the 43 that have been apprehended.

Spokesperson of the Special Prosecutor's Office Liridona Kozmaci said that after the initial 40, one person was arrested in Priština, one in Peć and one in Prizren last Friday.

Prosecutor Blerim Isufaj told a news conference on August 11 that most of the 40 who had been arrested had been members of the terrorist organizations Al-Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

The arrested persons come from Priština, Peć, Gnjilane, Uroševac, Prizren and Kosovska Mitrovica. They were taken into custody after it was determined that their actions represented "a threat to national security and the constitutional system."

During the operation, the police seized some evidence, including explosive devices and weapons. "The lawyers of the arrested have denied all charges by the prosecutor's office," according to Tanjug.
