Daily: Ulemek said DB chief told him who killed Ćuruvija

He said he told the chief of State Security (DS) that his unit, the JSO, cannot participate because they were all in Kosovo and Metohija.

Later, according Ulemek, Marković invited him because of another task. He then asked Marković which of the operatives would help, and the head of the DB replied: "Those who killed Ćuruvija".

"In front of the office waited Ratko Romić and Miroslav Kurak, who Marković said had killed Ćuruvija," Ulemek said in front of the prosecutor and his lawyer.

He talked about the role of Milan Radonjić, suspected as the organizer of the murder, and said that in 2001 he planned to liquidate Kurak and Romić because of the murder of Ćuruvija.

His statement about the planning of liquidation of Kurak and Romić was confirmed two days later by Miloš and Aleksandar Simović.

They testified that a vehicle followed Kurak and Romić, who noticed them. Therefore, the two suspects scheduled a meeting with Ulemek and the now deceased leader of the Zemun Clan Dušan Spasojević.

Ulemek testified about that meeting, after which the liquidation of Romić and Kurak was dropped. The first witness in the investigation Dejan Milenkovic aka Bagzi reiterated an earlier testimony that Kurak and Romić were followed in order to be killed.

The Prosecution for Organized Crime suspects that Marković ordered the murder of Ćuruvija. However, he denied it. Milan Radonjić, who is suspected of having organized the murder, was appointed seven days before the murder as chief of the DB in Belgrade and an assistant to Marković.

For several days he was also chief of the Second Administration of the DB. Romić was then an operative of the Second Administration in which the head was Radonjić. Kurak was a member of the special security of the DB, and before that he worked as an instructor at the JSO.

Miladin Suvajdžić aka Đura Mutavi, a cooperating witness in the case of the murder of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić and against the Zemun Clan, testified for the first time on January 6, 2014 about the murder of Slavko Ćuruvija and confirmed the statements of Ulemek, the Simovićs, and Milenković.

"He told how he got a car that the brothers Simović used to follow Ratko Romić and Miroslav Kurak. He was unable to get his story straight with Ulemek, who is isolated from the outside world in the prison, or with the Simovićs, who are also in prison. Ulemek was questioned on January 8 and and the brothers Simović on January 10, and also confirmed the allegations of his testimony," a source told Blic.
