Six former city officials arrested in Novi Sad

NOVI SAD -- Members of the Criminal Police Administration have arrested six former senior officials of the Novi Sad city administration.

The search is underway for another member of the group of suspects, the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a release.

They are suspected of abuse of office and enabling certain investors to make a profit of one million euros.

Between 2008 and June 2012, the suspects overstepped their authority and approved construction projects which were in violation of the Law on Planning and Construction.

In this way, they allowed several investors to gain building permits and legally put up buildings whose measurements are not in line with city planning documents.
